Description

The dragon is a noble symbol and appears on the National Flag of Wales. it was officially recognized in 1959. The red dragon also features in the Mabinogion where it goes on to defeat the white dragon, the Saxons. In Medieval times the dragon would be featured on Coats of Arms to signify  that the bearer was “the keeper of all Knowledge” – in other words the bearer was a man of wisdom.

The history of the dragon and Wales dates back to circa AD 829. It is generally understood that the red dragon was the battle standard for King Arthur and his band of Celtic leaders. In more recent times, the red dragon was used as a supporter on the Tudor Coat of Arms to represent their connection to Wales.
