The Crann Bethadh, usually a gigantic oak, was the center of the Celts’ encampment. It provided shelter, warmth and food for all. The Crann Bethadh had large branches reaching upwards and roots spreading deeply below symbolizing the Druids’ belief in that the tree was a link between heaven and the other world. The tree was a large part of the Celts’ spiritual life. The Tree of Life represented harmony and balance as well as strength, longevity and wisdom. The Tree of Life also honors the family – the roots representing those who have gone before us, the trunk depicting the here and now and the branches are indicative of those who will come after us.
